Overview
Pick up in Kigali is at 5:30 AM for the drive to Akagera National Park. The journey takes 2.5 to 3 hours. Upon arrival at the park headquarters, registration and general clearance are done. Then, you embark on a full-day game drive starting from the South of the Park and exiting at the North of the Park. This gives you the opportunity to explore half of the park in one day, particularly the lake circuit. The Southern part of the park has a lower concentration of animals, so the emphasis will be on driving towards the north to maximize the time spent there and see the big five and many other species of animals, birds, and flora.
You’ll have the opportunity to see 11 species of antelopes, over 480 species of birds, including rare ones such as the shoebill stork and papyrus, as well as the big five: Lions, Leopards, Rhinos, Buffalos, and Elephants. Additionally, you can enjoy observing reptiles, amphibians, plants, magnificent landscapes, and historical sites. Akagera National Park has the highest concentration of birds per square kilometer than any other national park in the region.
After the game drive, you will transfer back to Kigali and be dropped off at your residence around 6-7 pm.
